A lot of people seem to be getting iPads so I'm sure that's a huge factor.

I'll say one thing, It's going to get interesting in the tech world in the coming years.

The big thing to mention, it's not because of shitty MacOSX, it's more because of iPhone, iPad, and iPod.

If Microsoft would stop making half assed attempts at things (ie: zune) it might work out half decent for them too.

360 was a step in the right direction but too much red ring of death drama. I still love the 360>PS3/Wii but that's a while nother thread.

Yeah, there's been plenty of tired Apple versus Android versus Windows versus *nix threads already. I'd prefer this not become another one.

Tbh PC hasn't released anything "new" to the market so its expected.

It's interesting but it's more apples impeccable marketing strategy and innovation in their products. You pay for it that's for sure (overpriced!!).

I don't have anything against apple myself but i prefer windows based PC's until the end of time.

Honestly. Apple comes out with more gimmiks than Microsoft does. Think about it; countless computers, both desktop and laptop, which, as computers go, there's a new model every 6 months to 1 year. The iPod, which has been beat to death since it's introduction, iPod, iPod Nano, iPod Shuffle, iPod Touch, etc. Then we have the iPhone, iPhone (S) which I think is just a version for 3G networks or something, and soon the iPhone 4G. Then the less popular stuff like iPets, the little dancing robo animal toys, and finally.. The iPad. I'm not sure what the use for an iPad is.. If you have an iPhone or a laptop, you have no need for one, do you?

On the other hand, Microsoft has software and the Xbox/Xbox 360. I never see actual PCs or phones made by Microsoft, except for the components inside, maybe.

It's basically the same pattern every time.

1) Apple announces new gizmo.
2) All of my pretentious tech-savvy friends and coworkers laugh and *** about how they'll never need one and it's overpriced and lame.
3) Someone in our office or a friend gets one and lets us play with it.
4) Within six months, every friend and coworker quietly gets one. (But rest assured, that next Apple gizmo, well... man, they're not getting that one.)

I run a mixed environment of PC's and Mac's, both user clients and servers. The major software we develop databases in is owned by Apple. 81% of all users using their software are... windwows users... The majority of my contemporaries have Iphones, I have a Nokia. I was given an IPHONE, it sits in my desk drawer. I was given an IPAD, it works really good as a coaster. I was given a 17" macbook Pro, it occasionally works really well for surfing porn/forums while i take a dump.

I spent more money last year upgrading Apple hardware and software than i did for my windows boxes, and i have 12 windows servers, 9 user clients vs 3 OSX servers and 11 client machines.


Now that that's over, I agree, it's about the marketing. Microsoft tried to do several marketing campaign in the last few years including the man himself Bill Gates and they all got canceled...

Exactly. Apple knows how to goad people into buying things that will be obsolete in a year very well.

My sis has an iPhone and has actually had a bit of problems, the keyboard sucks, the voice search misunderstands me, and it frequently locks up or the screen will randomly flicker. Not to mention, you know how cell phone batteries are over time.. New battery means new phone or send it to Apple and probably pay to have it fixed.

Also, I forgot to add iTunes, but that .99 - $1.99 isn't much of a profit, nor is the App store.

I am not surprised. Even after using one I can't figure out a practical use for an ipad.

Apple just has more to sell then Microsoft. You buy window XP and hell you will use it for 10 years before you think of changing it. You will buy 3 Apple items in 1 year

I came into this thread expecting to see something about Mac taking over completely and Microsoft selling out, instead I find that the common rock is about as useful as the Ipad.

Yeah. Also, Apple didn't have that HUGE disatrophe known as 'Windows Vista' I'd still like to UPgrade my PC to Windows XP. Not sure about 7, haven't heard much on it. But as soon as I'd get 7.. "I'm a PC, and Windows 8 was MY idea!~"

While it may seem gimmicky, you have to give credit to Apple for some things. They've led the market in electronics design for the past ~5 years.

When the iPhone came out, the Motorola Razr was considered the coolest phone design ever conceived. It was everywhere. Now every smart phone is trying to look like an iPhone.

When the iPod came out, the best you could do was a little 20-30 song solid state plastic gizmo. Now, everyone who's come since has tried to match the iPod's design bar.

iTunes? I hate it, but need I say more? Now everyone's putting up their own app store. Four years later.

When the iMac came out, people laughed at the thought of putting the computer hardware and the display together. Go into Best Buy now. Count how many "me too" all-in-one machines there are.

Look at laptops. Nobody did brushed metal or seamless designs until Apple. Now everyone's trying. Look at their notebook keyboards, and then go look at PC keyboards over the last few years. Look how many laptops are trying to copy the design of Macbooks and Macbook Pros.

iPad? First tablet to market. (That isn't just a glorified laptop with a swivel screen.) Microsoft and HP canned their entire tablet projects in response, because their design wasn't as good. (Courier and Slate are both cancelled.) There might be an Android tablet at some point next year, but not right now, and the conceptual designs all look... wait for it... exactly like an iPad.

The point is, the reason Apple is doing well is that they've managed to successfully set the bar on design for the past five years. Google, Microsoft, whoever they are... yes, they can be arguably better? With more features? For cheaper?

But they keep coming to the party late.

Sure it's fun to toy with, but I can't see myself using it more than once a week. I dare someone to walk around with one on the Metro around here - that ***will be snatched so quickly.

If your PC can support Windows 7 and run it fine, I can't in any way give a negative reason to upgrade. It's amazing. :/ But that's off topic.

Summed up, Apple are all experts are making the same thing look flashy and fresh again in a new or smaller package, making you feel "out of date" with the new tech-trends. Does anyone really need a 64GB iPod? What the hell do you put on there to fill it up that you will honestly continually use?

Regardless, people buy and they supply. Can't really hate them for exploiting the people willing to throw money four times for the same product...I sure as hell would.
