*** cs degrees. I'm a cs major atm. And I absolutely don't wanna end up as a programmer. What else can I do with it? (I got ideas but I want people's opinions)

I'd love to. But now I'm not sure if I'd want to do CS or Engineering. I just want to do whatever is going to be the most fun.
Problem comes up when you factor in all the other stuff. Right now, I work full-time. Mortgage payment. Car payment. Utilities, etc. Insurance (me and more specifically, my son). And child support. Which is about to go up, almost double, to the point that I've got to consider a second job just to get by.
I was wondering if your son lived with you or his mother. Why would child support double? How do they determine something like that? I ask, only because recently, one of my friend's husband's was doubled for both of his previous children outside their marriage. They file taxes separately now, so that her income stays within their family specifically.
Until now, he's lived between the two of us. But a while back, she asked if I'd give her an extra 1% custody so they could get a place with an extra room because she's pregnant (her husband is in the army). When I refused, I got a surprise a few months later when I was informed that she'd filed with an attorney for "school year" style custody, so she could enroll him in head start. Which, of course, we had NEVER talked about before. (He's only 3.)
Of course, she gets what she wants, because I work irregular hours, and she doesn't work at all. So, child support is going up, partly because of the change in % custody (from 50% to me only having 25%), and partly because she went from having an income (small, but something) to no income, because they don't take her husband into consideration for it.
It's odd, though. Supposedly, her lawyer thinks it would be $350-375 per month. With no reported income on her end. But when we filed originally, for 50/50 and her having an income roughly 1/3 of mine, I was going to have to pay $425 per month. When we filed our last agreement, his mom set it at $200 per month because she knew I couldn't survive off of any more than that.
But now, that's all out the window. She's left me feeling pretty beaten down about the whole situation. It was bad enough when she lived here in town and I had to share him with her. It feels like there's nothing fair about the justice system. I just keep telling myself that I'm doing what's best for him in the long run by going along with it, doing my best to stay important to him as he grows up.
I don't understand why they would do that, because with her new husband, she should be receiving enough to supplement their living expenses with his income. Yeah...You should throw in a little for your brood, but it's annoying to think that some dads will be living on the bare minimum, you know?
Also, I've known plenty of gals who worked through their pregnancy right up until the day of. Employers will accommodate in most jobs. Women not working during pregnancy is BS. I mean...***! My company has a room for breast feeding mothers, so they can feed or pump in private! Not to mention six weeks maternity leave, three weeks vacation, one week sick/personal time.
On a side note: I think it's funny that my friends who teach time a lot of their pregnancies for six weeks before school is out for the summer. Good planning!
It's not that she can't work during pregnancy. It's that she just doesn't "have" to work, since the army pays for them to have a place to live, etc., and they have her husband's income on top of it. But the way the court sees it, it's me vs. her, not my household vs. her household.
Trust me, I have no problem in the least with paying child support. I just wish I had control over how that money was spent (most of it doesn't need to be, and should be getting saved for when he's older).
That, and I wish I could just spend all my free time with him. :/
This is what bugs me. She's capable, but doesn't. Why should your payments be upped if she chooses not to work?
Yeah...I don't doubt that in the least, but she's stretching your household thin. I wish courts would take this into consideration, especially since she won't even get off her butt, and get a silly minimum wage job. How do people even live with themselves sitting in the house all day and not interact with actual people? That would drive me up the wall!
Sad that you can't.
I've gotta run... Time for work. But thanks for talking with me about it. Thanks for showing me that at least not all women think like my son's mom. :D

ah, I mean grim is alright to a degree, but they went overboard, especially with Kamille, (don't spoiler anything of that for me :P)
@Volkom: be a programmer, freelance, just be really good.
well unless you like people, then you could do customer support, or if you like people and business, then be in IT itself, but the latter two I don't and wouldn't do well in, I suck at programming but I'm going to have to learn unless I want to pay others to program all my hardware, which would seriously kill my profit margin.

This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
