Sorry, but you're selling yourself (and a game's potential) short, if you're only playing them because of those sorts of qualities.
Super Mario RPG is a great RPG, because despite not being epically (made up word!) deep or serious, it had a great story and unique gameplay for its time.
I will, however, agree that Laff needs to play Xenogears.
Oh I'm not saying it's not a great game, I'm sure it's fantastic! I don't just play for those qualities, but I really like a deep involving story that makes you think hard. Xenogears was one of those experiences though that I have only ever had a couple of times in my entire life gaming so I'm naturally skeptical but seeing Mario RPG is late nineties Squaresoft pretty much guarantees that it's very very good.

I actually got stuck I think, in that town very early where you do the tournament I think? Been awhile.
Also if you can find a copy of Lunar: Silver Star Story or Lunar 2: Eternal Blue...for PS1....anywhere....GET IT.
And as per Austar's comment, the Tales series is very good, unique battle systems that may take a bit to get used to if your new to that style. Tales of Destiny I and II are great PS1 classics.
I've only ever played Tales of Destiny, and I never even finished it. Not because it wasn't fun. Just that I'd always get to the Tower of Druaga and burn myself out instead of finishing up the storyline.
To this day I've managed to avoid any spoilers about the ending!

Tales of Destiny 2 is one of my favorite PS1 games :D
I've got both Lunar: Silver Star Story collections for the PS1, also Legend of Dragoon and... Digimon World 2, because it was way better and more awesome than DW1

Tales series has some of the best life lessons, I swear.

The secret to just about any fight early on is... If all else fails, build Fei's combo gauge (one weak attack, then end turn), use Iron Will, then chain whatever your strongest Deathblow is. Almost a guaranteed one-turn win every time. (Assuming you keep your Deathblow skills up to date... Making sure your next available one is 100% so you level into it.)
Legend of dragoon ftw. You can find online too but if not I'll upload its 4 disc files for you if I can find a site to host em so you can play it on most comps freely without needing a ps2/ps1
It's on PSN. And I definitely recommend it.
And again, Illusion of Gaia remains one of the best games I've ever played.

PSN is lame because they blocked EU cards from the NA store so I can't get the good games there >:|
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
