There is currently an issue with the newest patch that changed how mipmapping works, anything above 1 is now considered to be off. As such you'll notice shimmering, especially on HD zone mods.

I used to have the shimmering issue a few years back, weirdly disabling mipmapping fixed it.

I also have bump mapping disabled due to the increased zone loading times being way too much personally.

After I read this post I decided to see if I could replicate my old shimmering issue, but with or without mipmapping or bump mapping enabled/disabled, I could not get the shimmering to happen.

So not sure why it's happening for others.

The shimmering mainly happens if you have HD textures for zones and no or low mipmapping. With Ai upscales it's barely an issue because there is barely any detail on those textures anyway.

Maybe dgvoodoo is helping or something?

Been running with all the HD zones from the modding community with no mipmapping for 2/3 years now and no shimmering since then.

Could also be the combination of no bump mapping, mipmapping or reshade maybe?

I do have a lot of the higher res zones from the HD packs too, and all fine, no shimmering.

sorry if this is a dumb question but i just did the nextgames by Logical 2022 video (thank you sir) and the game does look alot better. Are the files from the first page (the individual packs - monstser packs,etc.) included or should i get most of the stuff posted? Thank you in advance and apologies for my lack of knowledge of what was actually included.

I lost the ability to update the first post when I deleted my first account on here so I can't update it or do much with it anymore, however I believe he has added most of the ones I and Amelila made in the zip.

If the UI mods are included those need to be updated now and then when the game is updated however.

Another dumb one but if i were to download the masamune would i change the dat in the final fantasy folder or in the hd folder i'm using with xipivot?

Try to never change anything in the original folders unless it's for XIview, always do it in xipivot because it's easier to turn them on and off.

Also keep in mind that weapons are based on race/sex and glow/no glow so there is one dat file for each, so if you're a mithra and your Masamune has an afterglow you could just install one dat file and not them all if you wanted to.

If you mention race/sex/glow I can tell you the exact singular file.

once you install either type

//lua u xipivot

and then

//lua l xipivot

to unload the addon and reload it with the new folder/files taken into account or just restart the game.

Also you need to zone or force a blink to reload the file if you have it on.

Very cool! Makes me wish we could get modern skyboxes across the board.. sucks that it would have to be done zone-by-zone, but would give a huge improvement [imo] to the look-and-feel of the entire game

The headache is accurately representing the skybox for different kinds of regions, plus weather effects and all the other things.

You need Gimp or Photshop and a dds plugin to start with.

I've just about finished doing a master Trial HD set (Just the Lightsaber Weapons, not the Polearm).

Fermion Sword, Irradiance Blade and Aphelion knuckles.

Only the resolution, not much to do to a white glowing light really lol

The lightsaber parts are basically upscaled x8, I did some testing and any actual attempts to make them look higher fidelity made zero noticeable difference to those parts. (the DAT file actually breaks if they are not upscaled by the same resolution as the main model texture, or I wouldn't have even bothered with upscaling the lightsaber part, looks almost identical to the low res texture).

The strength of the glow actually comes from whichever zones lighting your in weirdly, but I wouldn't want to change that anyway.

I can do things like change the colour of the lightsaber parts, the glow, etc, but wanted to make them HD in a way as close to the source as I can.

Although I can't lie, was tempted to see what the lightsaber part would look like red, with a red glow.

I may revisit them again in the future, I went for a much higher res, brighter jade'ish colour that looks like it's glowing on the jewels on the Fermion sword vs the others.


The other weapons seemed to suit the duller jade'ish colour more.

So would be nice to hear feedback from people on which they prefer, I might redo the others all to the more bright, glowing style of the Fermion Sword.
