I am having all of the issues getting a controller working for FFXI now. All I did was I disabled vibration in the FFXI config. Now my Xbox controller's trigger buttons aren't doing anything. I tried plugging in a PS4 controller (which I'd bought to replace the Xbox controller) and it doesn't detect it. When I try connecting it using DS4Windows, it virtually converts it to an Xbox controller and disables L2/R2.
Sometimes Windows detects it as an Xbox controller, sometimes as a "wireless controller", and sometimes not at all. Either way, it doesn't seem to have any input.
I can't even find troubleshooting tips on the internet because it's supposed to be the easiest thing in the world: plug it in, it installs the drivers, it becomes usable. Even when I remove the drivers it doesn't work.
EDIT: I got it to work briefly after adjusting some stuff in Steam, but after less than a minute it shut off completely. I unplugged it and plugged it back in, which allowed it to work. But this time instead of dying altogether it froze inputs for a couple of seconds at a time. What the heck?!
There is still not an Opossum pokemon and I'm offended. It could be Normal/Ghost type. (since they play dead)
There's an old Canadian show where the end every episode at the start of a mens lodge meeting. The motto for Possum Lodge is appropriately "Quando omni flunkus, moritati", which is Latin for "When all else fails, play dead".

If I were to add a fifth person to Mount Rushmore, it would be Red Green. I don't care if he's Canadian.
Wow, I thought RE4 VR was gonna be meh but it felt really intense at some points. Chasing them with a knife felt really weird, especially when they get in your face lol. Pretty neat.

I bought a USB Bluetooth dongle with the hopes I could connect the PS4 controller to that, but that doesn't really seem to work either.
I'm almost positive it's got something to do with the drivers, but I can't figure out what...
I haven't watched Hugs' posted video, but I also use DS4 to connect my PS4 controller to my PC.
I would also recommend staying away from the Bluetooth if you need precise inputs. I find there is just enough erratic delay using Bluetooth that it causes issues on games that require tight timing on inputs. I just plug my PS4 controller directly to my PC with USB and the DS4 program picks it up from there.
DS4W causes my PC to detect and then undetect the pad every 5 seconds. And because DS4W causes the pad to act as an Xbox controller, FFXI doesn't seem to recognize the trigger buttons so I can't use my macros.
I'm not sure what either of those mean. It doesn't work whether Steam is up or not, and I'm not sure what xinput is.
xinput is the type of input controllers use since dx9 (iirc), xi used to not have native support, alternative is the default of directinput. PS4 controller is a directinput device but idk if da4windows' driver makes it be read as a directinput or xinput device, I don't recall. Gamepad settings has a checkmark to enable or disable xinput.
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
