There's no winning though. They either release this, it's relatively simple to get and super basic, so then people *** it's not worth it. (So don't do it? It's a tough concept.)
OR
They release lottery NMs with Empy+4 equivalent gear and people BAWWWW about wasting time in Limbus, or wasting galli in Sortie for years upgrading things.
By Dodik 2026-08-14 17:36:30
People will do anything to avoid doing Limbus I guess.

it's wild watching you guys crash out this hard over what they have said will be stepping stone gear, be stepping stone gear I dont know where you got that impression, but they said this gear would be on par with ambuscade tier armor. Its not, its worse.

False dichotomy.
Instead of making BS, easy, *** content for 6 months in a row, they could spend 6 months making a new challenging event that rewards new gear that's better than what we have now.
Or, in terms of actual ffxi-style design, it could be a sidegrade, situational piece. There are dozens and dozens (probably hundreds) of ways they could do this without disrupting or replacing the existing gear.
They chose, instead, to release some easy ***for returnees to get some bridge gear. That's fine, maybe it will end up being the right decision, IDK, but they didn't have to choose between obsoleting old gear with trivial *** or making trivial *** for newbs.
By Taint 2026-08-14 17:40:01
Limbus is their new gear for endgame.
Its just ***content.

Define worse. From SE's perspective, they might look at the fact that it has more WSD, -DT, A as "better". 10 > 7 WSD. Every piece of these new sets have -DT (not PDT or MDT). They're at least better defensively, and some pieces are clearly better offensively. Now, there aren't any Flamma +2 head/feet or Meghanada TA+5 leg pieces in the mix (those are clear outliers), but there are some standout pieces with both -DT and STP or DA, Crit+10, or something comparable. To say these sets are worse is not true.
If you were inviting a completely new player to join you in any event and you were concerned about their survival, would you suggest any Ambuscade +2 set over these?
(I'm not saying they're great pieces, but its exactly what they said it would be, with hopes of it becoming "Malignance"-like in the future)

This is right from SE. Only 5% of this equipment, when accounted across utility of all 22 jobs, is inarguably "more powerful than Ambuscade gear".

(I'm not saying they're great pieces, but its exactly what they said it would be, with hopes of it becoming "Malignance"-like in the future) I have writeups for every set and I set the baseline of gear available. Feel free to chew them up. I wont revoke your honorary Galka card for it.
Remember that bridge gear character is not fighting ***where they need to turtle up in 50% DT to survive. Bridge gear is farming Sheol A/B poorly, is doing Sortie top floor for caskets and maybe Ghatjot, is doing wave 1 dyna-D, is doing Omen, is doing V0 Gaol. Nothing here is stomping you out for not having 50% DT full time. Nothing theyre fighting is going to punish them with death for getting caught with their pants down and WSing in 5% DT. You cant even bring up the MEVA argument because these sets have pretty terrible MEVA.

It's pretty obvious the eventual reforge will bring them up to near malignance meva standards.
That's pretty good for better than ambu. The base gear is a bit meh, but it's base gear.
They sure are drip feeding this stuff though.
Stand by what I said even before this came out.
Why should anyone bother with this instead of Odyssey V0.

Why should anyone bother with this instead of Odyssey V0.
I agree with you, but for some reason, people are already ganging up into alliances and fighting NMs and opening boxes, so apparently it's already more popular than Odyssey out the gate.

To the point that anyone who would benefit from the changes today, will instead be on to bigger and better gear by the time it rolls out. Mythical new player from the future will be pleased.

That's pretty good for better than ambu. The base gear is a bit meh, but it's base gear. Again, straight from the horses mouth:
Quote: players will be able to acquire items that are even more powerful than Ambuscade gear and reforge them to be equivalent to Malignance gear
Unless my knowledge of the English lexicon is ***, to me that sounds like "these new items will be more powerful than Ambuscade gear and you can later make them equivalent to Malignance gear". With an exception to a select few for certain jobs, theyre not.
"But flamma head has no DT"? So what? Murky Ring takes 0 skill to get provided ??? is up in Apollyon, Alabaster Ear same thing, Defending Ring isnt hard to get, just dependent on shank supply, Ambu cape isnt exactly difficult to make*. Theres 25% DT + 5 DT or 10 PDT right there. This is more than enough for whatever bridge gear character is doing.
Moonbeam Ring is also AH accessible in place of DRing.
*I'm not sure how feasible farming ambu for a bridge gear character is, if Vol 1 VE is easier than Vol 2 VD/D, but its 8k hallmarks, which will also get them a full set of NQ from Chit, a Ring, a base weapon, 20 matter/fiber and materials to upgrade said weapon to Kaja.
These people are not fighting things that have the capability to dish out 4k damage at will. You guys seem to have forgotten the offensive capabilities of older/easier content because you've gotten so accustomed to getting OHKOed by Sortie Basement bosses, V25 bosses, Divergence wave 3 NM's / Disjoined, etc.

I agree with the general concept, but I distinctly remember getting absolutely floored by vagary bosses, all the omen midbosses, and honestly many of the UNMs when I first returned to the game. They're not exactly Aita, but some of that stuff is no pushover. Even a lot of the GF mobs as early as zitah will decimate you without DT.
Granted, you definitely don't need 50% DT and there are lessons to be learned there...but it's not as though everything in the "early endgame" is an unthreatening joke.

You got *** by Pain Sync
You got your buffs jacked by Blessing Sync
Carousel > View Sync combo sucks even with 50% DT, put up wilt/barrier instead or curaga faster.

The new gear is fairly common, but not as much from time spawns. The lottery spawn NMs are generous, but may not pop as quickly as you like.
What I've been doing is taking 2 mules to where the NM is with a key, log them off, and have my main char kill when it appears.
I'll open the chest, use the key to open again, and then quickly log in my two mules to get four overall opportunities. A third mule "might" be possible if you're super quick with logging in, but would be cutting it fine with the chest's 3-minute timer.

This is more than enough and its not touching any of the 5 armor slots.

I'm not wrong and you know it.
Actually I was wrong, because thats 10+10+5 + 5DT or 10PDT, so its actually 30/35, not the 25/30 I originally had written down.
If Maletaru wants to make his "well in 2019 I got roflstomped", then sure go ahead. But its not 2019, its 2026, and all this gear I listed is readily available or mostly easily accessible to a rookie.

So what was the point of them spending all that time on RSE 119 variants if they were going to go this route with gear anyway?

That's the question, cause the RSE set is definitely better. These new pieces shouldve been rse+2
Could be exactly the same NMs just that they drop materials for +2 and some kind of headpiece
By Nariont 2026-08-14 19:52:52
They'll be RSE+3... in like 4 months minimum(prob 6-8)
By CrAZYVIC 2026-08-14 20:18:07
Look at you. Just... look at you beautiful, seasoned, stubborn LORDs of vanadiel.
I am stepping out here today with one single, solitary hope. I hope to God you don't start bickering and moaning exactly like you did last month. Because watching grown men absolute legends of Vana'diel cry over gear stats, Tarutaru points, third-party add-ons, or whether Jimmy used an AI bot to write a forum post? It’s breaking my heart. It really is.
Let’s talk about stats. Because some of you are still acting like it’s the year 2005 and the level cap is 75. It is adorable. Back then, sure, you’d drop five million gil on a pair of pixelated earrings just to get one... single... lousy point of DEX. But let’s be honest with ourselves here that wasn't about the math. That was about status. You wanted to walk around Lower Jeuno flexing your digital muscles.
But today? In a world where our stats are sitting pretty at 350 to 400? A plus ten difference means absolutely, positively nothing. Zero. If a race choice actually mattered, we’d be talking about a massive, fat plus fifty difference.
I'm talking
Elvaan getting +50 Strength.
Mithra with +50 DEX.
Tarutaru with +50 Intelligence.
Galka with +50 Vitality.
Humes with +50 Mind.
If a tiny Taru had 300 more MP than a Galka, and that big, lovable Galka had 300 more HP than the potato? Then yeah, we’d have a reason to fight. But right now? You’re losing your minds over pennies, boys.
And oh, don't even get me started on the six-boxers and the third party tools. Listen to me, and listen close: everyone should be free to use whatever the hell they want. As long as it doesn’t actively bite me in the backside, I could not care less!
Personally? I think Gearswap is highly, highly overrated. Does it help? Sure, it’s a neat little tool. Is it mandatory? Hell to the no! I have done main-healing on Red Mage and Scholar without ever touching a LUA. None. And guess what? I’ve tripled the damage of other DDs while wearing basic, un-augmented, bottom-of-the-barrel Odyssey Rank 0 gear. Triple! In fact, most of those shady RMT players out there are running their little merc businesses in R0 gear! So I do not understand the absolute drama of trying to force your casual friends to use Gearswap, or demanding Rank 30. Honestly, it makes it look like you group leaders just want your lazy rears to be carried to the finish line.
Lastly... let's talk about the gear.
That is the grand, majestic flaw of horizontal progression. The developers just keep adding these incredibly boring, useless side-grade items just for the sake of saying, "Oh look, look! The game is getting updates! We're doing work!" No, you're not. FFXI stopped being a real MMORPG ages ago. It’s an online RPG now, and those geniuses at Square Enix need to understand that the community you lovely, aging, ridiculous people is what matters most.
If it were up to me? If I was running this joint? Here is the new world order. Pay attention.
First, I’d change Bard, Corsair, and Geomancer buffs. They'd be Area of Effect with a massive 30-yard radius for the entire alliance. Boom! One Bard, one Geo, one Cor, and your whole alliance is fully buffed. Party creation? Simplified. Done.
Next, I would tune all content for 12 players around Odyssey Rank 10-15 gear. If you’re hot stuff and you’ve got the skills, you can clear it with your little six-box setup. If you’re running with random folks from town, you can bring up to 18 people.
Sortie? Open to 18 players, 48-hour cooldown.
Odyssey? Open to 18 players, 48-hour cooldown.
Dynamis-Divergence? Wave 3 ONLY, 60-minute timer, 48-hour cooldown.
High-Tier Mission Battlefields? 18 players, 48-hour cooldown, and with a much, much better loot pool so you aren't wasting your precious time.
Then, I’d drop a beautiful, majestic 5-year roadmap right on your laps.
We’d introduce Temenos, apollyon, Dynamis-Divergence Dreamworld, the Outlands, and Einherjar. That means Dynamis-Valkurm, Buburimu, Qufim, Tavnazia, Beaucedine, and Xarcabard. Tuned for 18 people, 60 minutes, Wave 4 ONLY. And you better believe that would introduce brand new upgrade paths for REMA and Prime weapons. All on a 48-hour cooldown, naturally.
I’d create updated versions of Nyzul, Salvage, Omen, Sky, Sea, KSNM99, Voidwatch, and Legion. We’d crank the difficulty up to match Dynamis-Divergence Wave 2, Wave 3, and a hypothetical Wave 4. And what do you get? Augments for your REMAS + P weapons!
All of this would use a nice, clean "semi-vertical" gear progression. Everything would be a clear upgrade over your current Sortie and Odyssey gear, but without making the stuff you worked months for completely obsolete.
But of course... that is never going to happen. No sir. They are just going to keep feeding us useless side-grade gear. They're gonna keep giving us cheap, lazy events, all while their ancient code still feel like they're running on a 20-year-old, 56k dial-up modem. A dial-up modem, folks!
